Machine Girl (2008, Kataude mashin gâru)
Boom! Bang! Boom! Machine Girl finally arrived and without hesitation I gave it a try. Since the gory trailer showed up, I was excited about it like a little kid. Does Noboru Iguchi, who previously proved his talent with Sukeban Boy, pull it off? In a way, yes!
First of all one needs a motivation for a bloody revenge. So, during the first 45 minutes we accompany Ami who loses her brother after he gets tied up with a crew of thugs, and her subsequent entanglement with their Yakuza family… during which she got her arm chopped off. Some friendly strangers take her in and fortunately, her host has the extraordinary talent of being able to manufacture arm-mountable chainsaws as well as a Gatling guns, which fit perfectly to her stump. So yeah, it’s time for bloody revenge!
Once you survived the rather boring first part of Machine Girl, the second half will compensate your endurance. Henceforth limbs and heads get chopped off instantly. In this process there is such a huge amount of blood splattering out of all possible spots of the enemy’s bodies – brilliant! Thereby the movie doesn’t take itself too serious. Don’t expect any great story, and don’t get down about the bad camera, the bad lightning, the bad acting and the bad drama. Expect a bloody-as-hell second half and be satisfied by the creative art of killing. That’s what Noboru Iguchi wanted and nothing else – blood, blood and again blood. Thanks for this; I’m quite excited for your next achievement.
