Ong Bak 2 Promo Trailer!

Posted in flicknews with tags , , , , on June 19, 2008 by bierfass

Finally! After having the minor pleasure of watching the stunt stills of Ong Bak 2 again and again, here’s the shit and that shit is hot! Once again Twitchfilm rocks and pulls it off. They’ve got their hands on the promo trailer, and yeah, it’s hot hot hot hot!!! Bhoo!

In my oppinion, Tony Jaa is some sort of a Bruce Lee reincarnation. Jacky Chan is great as well as Jet Li is, but if you’ve seen Tom Yum Goong, then you might understand my hype about him and Ong Bak 2. I’m so fucking excited about all the bone breaks, superhuman fights and another one-shoot-scene as in Tom Yum Goong. That one’s not confirmed of course, but i have no doubt about some coequal features, which lets me sober saliva while being stunned. Bhooo!!!!

Machine Girl (2008, Kataude mashin gâru)

Posted in flicklog with tags , , , , , , on June 17, 2008 by bierfass

Boom! Bang! Boom! Machine Girl finally arrived and without hesitation I gave it a try. Since the gory trailer showed up, I was excited about it like a little kid. Does Noboru Iguchi, who previously proved his talent with Sukeban Boy, pull it off? In a way, yes!

First of all one needs a motivation for a bloody revenge. So, during the first 45 minutes we accompany Ami who loses her brother after he gets tied up with a crew of thugs, and her subsequent entanglement with their Yakuza family… during which she got her arm chopped off. Some friendly strangers take her in and fortunately, her host has the extraordinary talent of being able to manufacture arm-mountable chainsaws as well as a Gatling guns, which fit perfectly to her stump. So yeah, it’s time for bloody revenge!

Once you survived the rather boring first part of Machine Girl, the second half will compensate your endurance. Henceforth limbs and heads get chopped off instantly. In this process there is such a huge amount of blood splattering out of all possible spots of the enemy’s bodies – brilliant! Thereby the movie doesn’t take itself too serious. Don’t expect any great story, and don’t get down about the bad camera, the bad lightning, the bad acting and the bad drama. Expect a bloody-as-hell second half and be satisfied by the creative art of killing. That’s what Noboru Iguchi wanted and nothing else – blood, blood and again blood. Thanks for this; I’m quite excited for your next achievement.

Mandy Lane finally arrives

Posted in flicknews with tags on June 12, 2008 by alsokindaweird

All the boys love Mandy Lane (2006)It sure has been a while since I last (and first) met Mandy Lane on big screen – 10 months actually since first screening of All the boys love Mandy Lane (2006) in Germany at the Fantasy Filmfest in 2007. Now she finally will arrive to all of you out there: to German cinemas brought by Senator/Achterbahn (Trailer) on 26th of June and via DVD first released in UK on 21st of July.

As I remember it, this flick is worth the waiting, since its as I would say a state-of-the-art slasher movie, that manages to not only tease the audience but even screws with it in some way. But be sure you’ll be satisfied wholly and pleased in many ways before the credits roll and you’re gonna leave the screening with a big fat grin.

This really is one of a kind.

Waz (2007)

Posted in flicklog with tags , , on May 25, 2008 by alsokindaweird

Waz (2007)First of all: This is not about torture or sadism. If you want that, watch Saw.

I’ll try to put this one in an equation, though I got no glimpse what connectors would be appropriate.
1st: Waz (2007) is set in a filthy, dark, violent and depressing world. (reminds of Se7en (1995))
2nd you got a sadistic rape that proviously set the outlined story in motion.
3rd: A really intelligent (not Lecter-intelligent-but-weird) and focused killer slowly encircles it’s final victim because latter had tipped the scales towards severe suffering for the killer in the past.
4th: The whole WΔz = cov(wi zi )= βwz Vz – thing gives the flic a really nice touch and leads to the surprising 5th factor in this little movie-equation-trial: This is about love (without any romantic scene), especially for hardcore idealists, who keep beleaving in it though having been beaten down every time this feeling emerged in their lives.
6th: Tom Shankland and Clive Bradley as director and scripter plus all the production designers and cast just got it all right. This is one of the few films where everything fits perfect and works right along all the 100 minutes it lasts.

Naziploitation – “Blitzkrieg: Escape From Stalag 69″

Posted in flicknews with tags , , on May 8, 2008 by bierfass

On May 24th, Blitzkrieg will receive its world premiere and guess what – it has of course the potential to offend. The trailer reminds me alot of the Ilsa movies, which I personally enjoyed a lot. Ilsa as well as Blitzkrieg have enough violence, torturing and sex to satisfy any exploitation fan. If you haven’t seen Ilsa yet, it may ease the pain of waiting for Blitzkrieg.

Diary of the Dead (2007)

Posted in flicklog with tags , , , , on May 8, 2008 by bierfass

After getting my hands on Diary of the Dead, I was quite curious and of course watched it straight away. The last two hand camera works Cloverfield and [Rec] met my demands for unpolished and instant confrontation with the nasty evilness in a brilliant way. Of course I had my expectations. George A. Romero is probably THE father of zombie movies and in spite of the mediocrity of Land of the Dead, I had my hope for a decent flick, since Diary of the Dead was supposed to be a production without the control of a big Hollywood mainstream studio. Unfortunately, it failed almost all along the line.

So what’s going on? A group of amateur movie makers shoot a horror movie in a forest and suddenly receive information about dead people reviving and attacking other people. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it. From now on, they drive around from place to place in order to generally stay alive. One of them keeps track of his filming obsession and shoots everything they experience to show the world what’s really going on, since the media is embellishing the zombie attacks. Of course they get killed one by another. So what’s the problem? First of all, the script is horrible. The character drawing seems as it was made by a bad amateur writer who has no susceptibility to reasonable behavior at all. I can’t believe that Romero wrote the script. The movie ends up in having a few super-unvaried stereotypes, which indeed cause brain damage in the audience. It hurts to see them talking bullshit and act stupid. Furthermore, the acting itself sucks. It’s not even B-movie level anymore. It’s so horrible… I cannot believe I’m writing this now, but yeah, the bad script and the bad actors destroy the whole movie.

Moreover, what about the gore? Well, that’s the only proper and creative thing in Diary of the Dead – head splits, acid kills, lots of head shots, slashes by grenades and archery kills. However, does the gore make the movie a better movie? No. The criticism on mass media doesn’t help as well. Hmmm… I’m very disappointed. Dear Mr. Romero, please don’t rely on a concept without any proper structure. Please watch Cloverfield and [Rec] and learn how to make a proper hand camera movie, because your movie just failed. I hope your sequel will not slip up as this one.

Nazis in outer space – “Iron Sky”

“Das ist ein kleiner Schritt für den Menschen aber ein großer Schritt für das Vaterland”

Hahaha! Nazis on the moon! In 1945 when the German kingdom fell apart, the very elite flew to the dark side of the moon in order to build up a base and strengthen up again. The CGI looks just stunning, and I really cannot wait to watch Iron Sky as soon as possible.

The Signal (2007)

Posted in flicklog with tags on May 1, 2008 by alsokindaweird

The Signal (2007)
This one’s simple, and best of all, it explains itself best in the words of its characters.

The concept: Weird signals from tv, phone and radio brainwash everyone and turn them to murderers – so Lewis Denton (AJ Bowen) gets it right: “You simply dont know who to trust.”

More important: This one’s simply great, I haven’t laughed that much for some time. Don’t know if reading this will make an effect, but here’s a little scene-transcript out of the middle (minute 44) of The Signal (2007):

The Signal (2007) - scene

Anna (Cheri Christian): “That happened with Ken, he was watching tv and that made him go bad.”
[Guy with chainsaw running across the screen in background, motor howling]
Clark (Scott Poythress): “This is without a doubt THE MOST FUCKED UP day in the history of mankind. We should go back inside.”
Anna (Cheri Christian): “Who wants cocktails?”

This dust-dry humor is all over the place just like the blood is. This is really good fun due to a really good movie brought to us by David Bruckner who seems to have made this almost on his own (director, writer, cutter) as a movie-newbie.

A Must-see. 9/10
